First edition. A catalogue issued by the Trustees of the Mitchell Library, Sydney, originally intended as a record of the Australian tokens and coins in the Mitchell Library. It was enlarged to include descriptions of all known varieties. There are 61 full-page plates at the rear of the book (plate 15 defective, scuffed, adjacent page thinned). Holey dollar depicted on front cover and spine. A brief historical introduction is included, as well as chapters on copper and bronze tokens, an alphabetical list of Australasian copper and bronze tokens with description of over 640 varieties, lists of issuers in the various colonies, holey dollars and dumps, Australian pattern shillings and sixpence, Australian gold coins, and the Sydney and Melbourne and Perth mints from 1855 to 1920.
