Bangkok: Amarin Printing and Publishing Public Company. 172 pp. Paperback large octavo, very good condition, colour cartoons, corner tips front cover little creased. In 2002 His Majesty the Thai King wrote the book "Tongdaeng" which was the story of an intelligent and devoted dog. This was a very popular book which had the English version printed alongside the Thai version. For this version, Chai Rachawat illustrated the King's story. To enhance comprehension, Mr Chaiwent (the cartoonist) added more pictures, including the Chitralada Villa, Dusit Palace and Klaikangvol Palace in Huahin. The colourful cartoons were very lively, giving an illustration of movement. There is additional information about Tongdaeng and other dogs raised by the King. This very special book will help raise awareness about Thai stray dogs and if given the right home with plenty of love and kindness, they will give back what they are given. Every important subject has been fully discussed. The simplest language was chosen and needless technical expressions excluded. The illustrations of dogs add value, as they are true to life, and some have the nearest approaches to perfection. They were still thinking about the move from London, but they fell in love with the little dog with a big grin, waiting at the gates. Strips are usually set around the end of the 1960s or the beginning of the 1970s.
