This fascinating history has been written by the Reverend W. M. Edmunds, Vicar of Wairoa, New Zealand. The first parish church was built in 1862, and the brick cathedral was built in 1886, and consecrated two years later. It was completely destroyed by the 1931 earthquake. For more than 25 years a "temporary" wooden building served as the cathedral of the diocese. This was dedicated in October, 1932 by the author. The new cathedral was completed March 9, 1965. There are several entrances to the Cathedral. This booklet assumes that one enters at the North-West Porch, the one farthest from the Marine Parade. (No date, about 1960s, Trove.).
